Sweet Iron develops surface rust through contact with (air) moisture, which tastes sweet and naturally stimulates salivation. This causes the horse to foam more, which leads to it accepting the bit better. Due to this rusting process (oxidation), the blue color of TRUST bits changes to brown-gray. If a Sweet-Iron bit is not used for a certain period of time, an orange-brown rust layer can form on the mouthpiece. This can be removed very easily by rubbing the bit with a damp cloth.
