Mylers Toklat bit (MB 04) 15,2cm - unused - I am posting the text from the manufacturer here to explain the mode of action a little: Myler level 2 bits exert less pressure on the tongue due to their design and offer a little more tongue freedom, but in comparison to level 1 bits they exert more pressure on the bars. Level 2 bits work without pinching. They are especially designed for more advanced horses and riders who ride slowly with more pressure on the bars and less pressure on the tongue. Caution: too early and strong pressure on the bars can lead to bruising and injuries.
Mouthpiece: The mouthpiece MB 04, level 2, rolls downwards onto the tongue and the bars. It is an excellent transition from level 1 to level 2 bits. It is suitable for a wide variety of horses: inexperienced horses, already trained horses that are being ridden with Myler bits for the first time or as a bit for horses that have had a longer break from riding.
Compared to the MS 02 mouthpiece (level 1), the MS 04 has a slight port and therefore offers slight tongue freedom, but exerts pressure on the bars and lips. The bend in the side bars of the mouthpiece means that the mouthpiece rotates on the tongue when the reins are taken and rests on the bars and lips without pinching or pinching them. At the same time, the curve of the mouthpiece creates more space for the tongue under the bit. The mouthpiece is double jointed and has a wide cuff with an integrated roller (similar to a Billy Allen). This cuff with roller acts on the middle of the tongue and rolls downwards on it. The two sides of the mouthpiece move independently of each other, allowing the rider to lift one side of the bit away from the tongue and towards the bit. This allows one side of the horse to be isolated and one shoulder to be lifted. The cuff with roller distributes the rein pressure more gently than a traditional double jointed mouthpiece. When pressure is applied to both reins, the interaction of pinching, restriction and rewarding relief is utilized; the nutcracker effect is virtually eliminated due to the design of the bit. The roller is particularly useful for calming horses with restless mouths.
Cheekpiece: The eggbutt rings of the bit act directly when the reins are picked up, the identical pressure on the reins is passed on to the horse's mouth. The signal is clearer than with a loose O-ring bit and the olive head design avoids stress on the tongue. The straight side of the olive head ring cannot be pulled through the horse's mouth and therefore does not pinch.
